Chris Mepham receives Wales call-up for Nations League decider

Defender on brink of promotion to Europe's top tier

5 November 2018

Chris Mepham has been included in Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad for two games later this month.

The defender, who celebrates his 21st birthday today, will join up with The Red Dragons this time next week ahead of games against Denmark and Albania.

First up is a potentially decisive home Nations League game against Denmark in Cardiff on Friday 16 November, kick-off 7.45pm. Wales currently sit top of Group B4 with six points from three games, two clear of The Danes but having played a game more.

Victory for Chris and Wales would secure top spot and promotion to the top table of European Football, as well as guaranteeing a Euro 2020 Play-Off place. A draw would leave Giggs’ side sweating on the result of the final group game between Denmark and Ireland while defeat would guarantee The Danes top spot. When the two sides met earlier in the competition, it was Denmark who came out on top thanks to a Christian Eriksen double in Aarhus.

Following that game, Wales then head to the Elbasan Arena to take on Albania in a friendly the following Tuesday, 20 November, kick-off 7.45pm.

Chris, who has featured 17 times for The Bees this campaign, missed Wales’ last two matches through injury, having played the full 90 minutes in Wales’ previous three internationals. In total, Chris has four caps to his name at senior level.
