The 2017/18 domestic season is almost at a close to attention has started to shift to the upcoming campaign. Brentford have announced pre-season friendlies against Boreham Wood (6 July), Wycombe Wanderers (17 July) and Watford (28 July). There is now only a month until the fixtures for the new season will be released.

Many of the players are on holiday but some are away with international teams or are waiting to link up with their countries. John Egan played for Republic of Ireland in a testimonial for Scott Brown against Celtic on Sunday and Brentford B goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe is away with England Under-19. Chris Mepham spent last week with Wales at a training camp and is part of a squad heading to Pasedena to play Mexico next week.

There were only two Championship games played last week and one more to come but they are significant fixtures. Fulham beat Derby County to reach the Play-Off Final and a 0-0 draw between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough meant the former progressed to take on the West London side. Fulham and Villa will meet on Saturday, 26 May, and the winners will be promoted to the Premier League.
A day later there will be a match between teams looking to reach the Championship. Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United have worked their way to the League One Play-Off Final and the winner will get a visit to Griffin Park next season.
For those coming down there were managerial alterations with Darren Moore being confirmed as West Bromwich Albion boss after almost performing a miracle to keep The Baggies up. Paul Lambert left Stoke City and Carlos Carvahal left Swansea City. Reports indicate that Gary Rowett may take over at Stoke and leave Derby County while Steve McLaren is now in charge at Queens Park Rangers.
The FA Cup Final took the headlines on Saturday and Chelsea beat Manchester United to take the trophy for the eighth time. Prior to the match Wembley was lit up with the names of all teams involved in the competition this year, including Brentford. More can be seen here.
The Managerial Merry-Go-Round is in full swing with clubs including Arsenal, West Ham United and Everton all changing bosses or making appointments. Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pelligrini is now in charge at West Ham while Arsenal may be about to appoint Unai Emery, latterly of Paris St Germain.
On the pitch Celtic won the Scottish FA Cup and Eintracht Frankfurt won the German version. Athletico Madrid beat Marseille to win the UEFA Europa League last week. The final game of the European season will take place on Saturday when Liverpool face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Final.
Attention will then turn fully to the FIFA World Cup 2018, which takes place in Russia and starts on 14 June. Squads are being named and Gareth Southgate has chosen his 23 to represent England. The Three Lions face Belgium, Panama and Tunisia as they seek to make the last 16.
