There was plenty of Brentford interest in the draw for this summer’s UEFA Under-19 European Championships which was made in Vassa earlier today. Hosts Finland have been drawn alongside Portugal, Norway, and Italy in Group A while England are in Group B with Turkey, Ukraine, and France.
The Brentford B duo of Marcus Forss and Jaakko Oksanen are currently away with the Finnish Under-19 set-up at a training camp building up to July’s tournament. As part of the four-day get together, Finland have two matches against Montenegro Under-20 on 1 June and 4 June.
Marcus has been a regular for Finland at youth international level. As well as his Under-19 appearances, he has also played at Under-18 level for his country. In total, Marcus has played 14 games for Finland and scored eight goals, including two in his last match against Switzerland.
Despite only being 17, Jaakko made his Under-19 debut against Georgia in October and has seven caps at that level. He has also represented his country at Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 level.
The UEFA European Under-19 Championships will be held in Finland from 16 to 29 July. Finland are one of eight teams looking to claim the trophy with the top five finishers also qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup in Poland next year.
Ellery Balcombe played in England’s Elite Round Group 2 wins over Hungary and Latvia as Paul Simpson’s side secured a place in the tournament. The 18-year-old has five caps at Under-19 level and has also represented England at Under-18 level and was in the Under-20 squad that won the prestigious Toulon Tournament last summer. He has nine international appearances to his credit overall.
