DSC Arminia Bielefeld fell short in their promotion push after a 1-0 defeat against St Pauli on Sunday. Yi-Young Park got the only goal at the Millerntor Stadium, six minutes before the break, as the Hamburg side secured their 2.Bundesliga status with the three points. Konstantin played just under an hour for Jeff Saibene’s side, his 30th appearance of the campaign. DSC will look to secure fourth when they host SV Sandhausen next Sunday.
It was the final weekend of fixtures in England with three Bees youngsters finishing their loan spells on Saturday.
Jack Bonham made his 49th appearance of the campaign as Keith Curle signed off as Carlisle United manager with a 1-1 draw at home to Newport County. Mark Ellis headed The Cumbrians in front after a quarter of an hour but Padraig Amond levelled just before the break. The draw means Carlisle end the Sky Bet League Two season in tenth, eight points off the Play-Off places. Jack finished the season with 14 clean sheets in 42 league matches following his season-long stay at Brunton Park.
Also in League Two, Ilias Chatzitheodoridis played the full 90 minutes as Cheltenham Town were beaten 2-1 by Crewe Alexandra on the final day. Shaun Miller opened the scoring for The Railwaymen but George Lloyd levelled just before the break. However, Miller took advantage of a defensive mix-up on the hour to settle matters. Ilias made 18 League Two appearances for The Robins after joining in January as Gary Johnson’s side finished the season in 17th.
In League One, Justin Shaibu was not involved as Walsall were beaten 2-0 on the final day at Fleetwood. Both goals came late on in the first-half with Ashley Hunter and Paddy Madden on target for the Cod Army. The Saddlers confirmed their League One survival in midweek. Justin made 14 appearances, without scoring, as Dean Keates’ side survived by two points.
