Futsal Bees in FA Futsal Cup action this Sunday

Futsal side aim for last eight of national competition

11 May 2018

Brentford FC Futsal will take to the court this Sunday in their FA Futsal Cup Second Round tie against Escolla Futsal Development at High Wycombe Leisure Centre. The Futsal Bees have had to negotiate a regional qualifier and come through a very testing first round tie against Hampshire based Spanglish Futsal Club to reach the last 16 of the competition, winning 9-8 after having been 5-0 down at half time.

Brentford will start as underdogs in this away tie, as Escolla Development’s first team play in The FA Super League and are currently second. Escolla also beat Super League  Tranmere Rovers last week to set up this tie. This will undoubtedly be Brentford’s toughest game to date.

The Futsal Bees will field a mix of former and current Under-19 players alongside a couple who have played some Futsal previously. Goalkeeper Bahaa Jahlki and pivot Said Gutale, students of our partners at West London College, were recently selected for the South East squad for the English Football League Trust Futsal All-Star game so do have some threat.

Brentford fans are encouraged to come along on Sunday to support the squad and the game kicks off at 4.15pm. The game must be played to a conclusion with extra time and penalties if needed. The winners will play away to Helvecia Futsal Club (the current FA Super League leaders) in the quarter-finals.

Luis Melville, Head Coach, said: "We know the size of the task ahead of us but as we showed in the last round, we are resilient. Escolla have an excellent squad, but we will give it everything and see what happens on the day.  It would be great and a massive help to us, if the Bees fans could get behind us on the day. As shown by the football club’s away support, it can make a difference, to be our six man."
