Bees to face Boreham Wood in pre-season

First friendly confirmed for Friday 6 July

15 May 2018

The first of Brentford’s pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2018/19 season has now been confirmed, a trip to Boreham Wood. The Bees will open their match schedule with a game in Hertfordshire on Friday 6 July. The game will kick-off at 7.30pm and ticket information will follow in due course. This will be followed by a training camp in Germany and more games before the season starts on the weekend of Saturday 4 August 2018.

This will be the fifth season in six that Brentford have played Boreham Wood in pre-season, and the sixth year in seven overall. Brentford won an FA Cup First Round tie at Meadow Park in 2012 and then played friendly games in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Boreham Wood won the last meeting between the sides 2-1 in July 2016.

Boreham Wood have been on the rise in recent years and, if things had been different, could have hosted The Bees as an EFL side. When the teams first met the Hertfordshire side were in the National League, then Conference, South. They reached the top flight of non-league football in 2015 and finished fourth in the National League in 2017/18. They reached the National League Play-Off Final but lost 2-1 to Tranmere Rovers at Wembley on Saturday.

The game will be the start of Brentford’s friendly programme and more games will be confirmed in due course. The centrepiece of pre-season training will be a seven-day camp in Germany, which will – it is hoped – conclude with a friendly match that Bees fans can watch. Dean Smith will be taking his side to Bavaria for a training camp from Saturday 7 July to Saturday 14 July and the plan is to end that camp with a game. More information can be seen here.

The Bees are lining up a series of friendly matches to take place in July and it is hoped to confirm dates and opponents in the coming days. Current plans are for a game at Griffin Park against Premier League opposition on Saturday 28 July with away games on Tuesday 17 July and Saturday 21 July as well as the trip to Boreham Wood. All details of pre-season will be announced as soon as they are confirmed.
