Brentford FC Co-Director of Football Phil Giles and B Team Head Coach Kevin O'Connor have been speaking about the pathway through to the First Team and beyond. The Club has had the spotlight turned on it after former defenders James Tarkowski and Alfie Mawson were named in the England squad. Both could make debuts against The Netherlands today, Friday 23 March. That would come a day after current centre half Chris Mepham made his Wales debut against China.
Phil and Kevin spoke at length to Matt Hughes, Deputy Football Correspondent at The Times, as he watched Brentford B beat Manchester United 3-1 on Tuesday. Their comments appeared as part of a piece published yesterday looking at the way Brentford produce players with a look at the development of Mepham from Brentford B to full international in nine months. The piece can be seen here but is behind a paywall.
Chris has also spoken of his rise with Stuart James of The Guardian. He spoke of how Brentford took a chance on him and how the B Team has helped him progress to full international honours. That piece can be seen here.
