Can Brentford return to winning ways?
Brentford were left disappointed with defeat on Tuesday night in a game that promised so much after Neal Maupay’s early strike gave the Bees an early lead. The home side dominated possession and registered 10 more attempts on goal than the visitors but it was Cardiff who left with a 3-1 win and all three points.
Neil Warnock’s side’s league position is no surprise, nor is it flattering, and it is these types of games that champions, and promotion-chasers end up winning. For Brentford at least, Dean Smith will have plenty of positives ahead of another tough encounter this week and a home win on Saturday against Middlesbrough is available at 7/5.
A victory on Saturday keeps Brentford’s play-off dream alive - the 2-2 draw back in September showed us how close these teams are and another draw this time round can be backed at 23/10, while a repeat of the 2-2 draw is available at 13/1.
Yoann Barbet netted the opening goal that day and he is 18/1 to score first again this time round. Ollie Watkins got the second Brentford goal and he is currently 15/2 to score first on Saturday.
Boro have been strong form of late, with Tony Pulis’ men on an unbeaten run of five games. Pulis has brought the best out of his new side, with a number of his players finally showing their worth, including striker Patrick Bamford who has been in red hot form, netting seven goals in Boro’s last five game. The former Chelsea starlet is 5/1 to open the scoring on Saturday.
Leo’s Prediction: Brentford 2-1 Middlesbrough, 8/1
