Loan Round-Up: Bees dodge weather disruption to record unbeaten weekend

The latest from The Bees out on loan this weekend

5 March 2018

Despite the awful weather conditions, three of the four Brentford players out on loan did see action with their clubs this weekend.

Jack Bonham continued his excellent recent form as he kept a clean sheet in Carlisle United’s 2-0 home win over Grimsby Town on Saturday. Victory was The Cumbrian fourth in a row and moved Keith Curle’s side up to ninth, three points off the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs. Hallam Hope netted after just three minutes and the win was confirmed late on thanks to a Mark Ellis goal. In between, Jack made a crucial save to deny Harry Cardwell a leveller on the hour. The clean sheet was Jack’s third in four games and 12th league shutout of the campaign.

In Germany, Konstantin Kerschbaumer grabbed an assist as DSC Arminia Bielefeld fought back from 2-0 down to claim a point at 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 on Sunday. Marc Schnatterer and Maxi Thiel struck either side of the break as the hosts took control at the Voith-Arena. However, Julian Borner pulled one back with 25 minutes and then, two minutes into added time, Konstantin squared for Andreas Voglsammer to lash home a dramatic equaliser. The point leaves DSC seventh in the 2.Bundesliga, five points off the top three.

In Sky Bet League One, Justin Shaibu was an unused substitute for Walsall as Erhun Oztumer struck a second-half hat-trick to down Southend United at Roots Hall. The Shrimpers ground-staff worked miracles to get the game on but the Turkish attacker took centre-stage after the break to render their efforts in vain. The three points, Walsall’s first on the road side November, lifted The Saddlers up to 13th, seven points above the drop zone.

The only one of the Bees quartet to see their game postponed on Saturday was Ilias Chatzitheodoridis as Cheltenham Town’s home game against Notts County fell victim to the weather. The two sides will try again tomorrow night at the LCI Rail Stadium after the fixture was moved to Tuesday.
