Ellery Balcombe played 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet as England’s Under-19s made it two qualifying wins from two after yesterday’s 3-0 victory over Latvia.
Following Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Hungary, a brace from Mason Mount and a strike from Eddie Nketiah wrapped up this Elite Qualifying Round tie in Skopje. Paul Simpson’s side now know that a positive result against host nation Macedonia on Wednesday will see them top their group and qualify for this summer’s finals in Finland.
Ellery has played every minute so far this week, earning his fourth and fifth caps at Under-19 level.
Denmark are also still in with a good chance of qualifying following their 1-1 draw with Turkey on Saturday. Mads Bech Sorensen again skippered his nation as The Danes fell behind after 41 minutes; Muhayer Oktay with Turkey’s goal. However, they secured a point late on thanks to Jens Odgaard’s goal.
The appearance was Mads’ 11th for his nation at Under-19 level while fellow Brentford B defender Lukas Talbro was an unused substitute. To qualify, The Danes will have to better Turkey’s result on Tuesday when they face Austria, with The Turks taking on so-far pointless Bosnia and Herzegovina in their final game.
