With no Sky Bet Championship action for Brentford today, the Futsal Bees take centre-stage when they make their debut in The FA Futsal Cup First Round proper at Brunel University, Brentford FC Futsal Club had to come through a regional qualifier back in October, and now face a team from Southampton, Spanglish Futsal Club, who qualified in their region. The match will take place at Brunel University Sports Centre, in Uxbridge and entry is free for any Bees fans and Ealing, Hammersmith & West London students who wish to come along to support the team, with the game kicking off at 10.15am.
This is Futsal’s premier domestic cup competition, like its football cousin, and the finals take place over a weekend with the last four competing for the title. Many of the Bees squad are students from Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College and are looking forward to the challenge against a team made up of Spanish teachers with good Futsal experience.
Head Coach Luis Melville said: "I think we all surprised ourselves in the qualifiers, beating experienced adult Futsal teams. My message to the squad is, believe in your ability, stick to our game plan and you never know, we might just surprise ourselves again. I have great memories of The FA Futsal Cup, having been involved in a final before as a coach. This is a great opportunity and occasion for our young squad."
