As Futsal grows in popularity in this country, The English Football League Trust Futsal programme is holding its first ever All-Star event today, Thursday 29 March, involving the best players from the four league regions; North, Midlands, South and South West. The inaugural competition will be held at the prestigious St. George’s Park, home to all 28 England representative teams, with the players getting to perform on the same court as the Futsal Lions.
Brentford will have a keen interest in the South squad, as two players, students at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College, have been selected - goalkeeper, Bahaa Jahlki and pivot, Said Gutale. The Bees are also represented with Head Coach Luis Melville selected as one half of the coaching team along with James Phillips of Chelsea FCtenPlayers from Albion in the Community, Southampton, and Chelsea will also be part of the 10-man squad.
This recognition for the Brentford players is reward for their performances this season with both players being vital to the team’s progress to The FA Futsal Cup First Round. A round robin competition will be held in the afternoon between the four teams, and all the squads will get a chance to train on the international standard court in the morning before the actions starts.
Luis Melville said: "It’s a great honour for all the players, from all the regions, to be selected to play at St. George’s Park, a world class venue. I am delighted for both Bahaa, who has had an outstanding season, and Said, who has taken to Futsal very quickly and shown that he can be a very effective player.
"On a personal note, I feel very lucky to have been selected along with James from Chelsea. Our aim is to give them a positive experience and for all of them to take away some great memories of the day."
