B Team Scotland Blog: Day Four

The B squad travel home after playing Rangers in Glasgow

15 March 2018

On Wednesday 14 March, Brentford B were out of bed by 9.30am and on the way to a pre-match meal before their match with Rangers Development Squad in Glasgow. The weather looked cold and wet, and as the day progressed it didn't get much better. This was going to be a cold one for The Bees.

A short analysis meeting followed before the lads were on their way to Rangers Training Centre. Arriving with plenty of time before the game kicked off, the boys spent some time on the pitch outside getting used to the conditions.

The staff ran into an old friend in Rangers' Head of Analysis Neil McIlhargey, who was also at Brentford when Kevin O'Connor was still playing for The Bees. Former loanee Lee Hodson was also part of the team that played Brentford B in the game at 1pm, the now 26-year-old had a spell at Griffin Park in the winter of 2012.

Match Report

Brentford B beat a strong Rangers Development side 3-0 thanks to three goals in the first half. Marcus Forss scored first, rounding the keeper and slotting home. Then Reece Cole netted a free-kick and Bradley Clayton added the third from the penalty spot.

The hosts had their chances and England Under-19 international Ellery Balcombe had to be sharp to stop the Light Blues getting something from the game. Nikolaj Kirk had a great game at left-back despite it not being his natural spot in the team, praising defensive partner Mads Bech Sorensen and winger Herson Rodrigues Alves in his post-match interview.

Kevin O'Connor gave his thoughts to iFollow after the game. He was proud of his side's performance and admitted that the result was one that should give his players the confidence to perform like that every week against any opponent.

He said: "Today, everyone was on it and our pressing was brilliant. I’ve just said to them in the dressing room that we have to do that every game regardless of who we play against, not because you’re playing against a First Team player. You should do that every single game and that’s the level we hit when we do that."

The full interview is available here now.
