Brentford B defeated Rangers Development Squad 3-0 in Scotland on Wednesday afternoon.
Marcus Forss scored first early in the game, then Reece Cole added a second with a smart free-kick. Bradley Clayton added the third from the penalty spot before half-time.
The team showed several changes from the side that played Kelty Hearts on Sunday. Theo Archibald and Tom Field dropped out, replaced by Nikolaj Kirk and Herson Rodrigues Alves. Captain Zain Westbrooke returned to the side, as did his usual midfield partner Cole.
The Rangers team showed a mix of youth and First Team players, including former Brentford fullback Lee Hodson in the back four. Jak Alnwick lined up between the sticks, former West Brom man Graham Dorrans was in the middle and Gers Club captain Lee Wallace started in the back four.
It only took four minutes for The Bees to take the lead, Forss latching onto the end of a pass through the middle by Bradley Clayton. He rounded the keeper before slotting it into the bottom corner.
Then it was Cole’s turn. A free-kick on the edge of the box, and rather than shoot first time he let Zain Westbrooke chip it up for him to hit. The shot beat the wall and found the top left corner.
The third goal came from Clayton, this time from the penalty spot. It was Clayton who was actually fouled, on his way into the box from a pass by Cole. He was pushed as he went past his man and hit the floor. He got up to place the ball on the spot and then tucked it into the bottom corner.
At the break, Brentford were in control and looking likely to add to their tally. The second half was a slower affair as Rangers made changes and Brentford took their foot off the gas.
Alves went close before he was replaced by Raphael Assibey-Mensah with 10 minutes to go. A ball in from Cole on the right was heading for Alves' head until Hodson did enough to put him off at the far post.
Rangers had their share of chances in the second 45 minutes and goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe had to be bright to stop a breakaway from Zak Rudden when one-on-one. He was also highly relieved to see a deep free-kick go all the way across his penalty area and miss the far post by inches towards the end.
Forss had a chance blocked on the edge of the box with the clock running down. Then Kirk tracked forward before cutting inside to release a shot of his own. It took a deflection off Aidan Wilson and fizzed wide of the post.
