Brentford Football Club Community Sports Trust played host to an exciting Girls’ Football Festival, in partnership with the Premier League, earlier this month. The event, which was held at Uxbridge High School’s indoor dome, saw more than 70 girls from seven local schools take part. The festival was part of the Trust’s wider initiative that is encouraging more girls to start playing football.
The initiative is in line with The FA’s Gameplan for Growth, with the target of doubling girls’ participation in the sport by 2020. The strategy for women’s and girls’ football at grassroots level includes initiatives alongside SSE Wildcats, such as FA Girls’ Football Week and our Premier League Kicks programme. Girls in Years Seven and Eight, and who took part in the festival, have benefited from the Trust's 30-week girls’ coaching programme.
Edith Johnston, a participant from Grey Court School, said: “We are really happy to be able to play in the festival today and it has been a fun day playing so many matches.”
