Terracing will remain at Griffin Park for the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season after formal approval was received last week. Clubs promoted to the Sky Bet Championship are allowed a three-year grace period to convert terracing to seating. But with The Bees entering their fifth year at this level, the Club had to seek dispensation to retain standing at Griffin Park. And that permission has now been granted.
Brentford is the only Club in the Championship with standing areas and it provides a unique atmosphere at Griffin Park. The Ealing Road Terrace is popular among our most vocal home supporters while most away clubs fill the Brook Road Terrace at the opposite end of the ground. The Sports Ground Safety Authority recommended that the Club were allowed to retain standing at Griffin Park in view of the progress being made towards the building of a new stadium and the fine safety record in the terraces. Formal approval has now been received from the Secretary of State to maintain terracing at its current level for the upcoming season.
Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “It is great news that we now have formal approval to retain our terraces. The introduction of seats into terraced areas of Griffin Park would have reduced our capacity by approximately 1,600. Refusal would have had a significantly damaging impact on our revenues and ability to grow our fanbase.
“We know our fans love our terraces and away clubs usually sell out that end as well, which proves their popularity. We would like to place on record our thanks to the SGSA Board for allowing us a chance to present our case and for giving us a fair hearing and to the Secretary of State for agreeing with their recommendation. As we enter the final years at Griffin Park it is great we can retain the unique atmosphere that terracing provides and our Operations Team also deserve credit for the way they manage those areas safely.”
There are still spaces available on the Ealing Road Terrace for the 2018/19 season. Season Tickets are available at £419 for adults, £309 senior (65+), £269 young persons (18-24) and £115 for juniors. Buy your Season Ticket here.
