Goalkeeper Balcombe joins England U21 in Toulon

Goalkeeper in France as training support

3 June 2018

B Team goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe has spent the last few weeks in Toulon with England Under-21s to support Aidy Boothroyd's squad in training. While not officially a squad player for the tournament, Ellery has been placed on the stand-by list should anything happen to Newcastle's Freddy Woodman or Bournemouth's Aaron Ramsdale.

England will face Scotland in the Semi-Finals after the Scots beat South Korea U20s 2-1 in the group stage, Billy Gilmour and Oliver Burke scoring the goals. England were made to wait for that result to come in after beating Qatar 4-0 on Friday but their place in the next round was confirmed yesterday, the squad advancing as best placed runner-up.

Ramsdale and Balcombe have been in the same England squad before and also lined up against each other earlier in the 17/18 season when AFC Bournemouth's U23s lost 2-0 to The Bees at Jersey Road.
