Brentford's second squad started their 2017/18 campaign with a trip to Hungary for the first two pre-season games of the new term. New signing Ali Coote got himself off to a great start with two goals in his first game for Kevin O'Connor's side. Ilias Chatzitheodoridis and Zain Westbrooke scored the other two goals in a 4-0 win over ETO Gyor. That was quickly followed by a 2-1 win over MSK Zilina as Coote continued his fine form by netting again, this time Theo Archibald got the second.
The squad improved on their run with a second trip just a week after returning from their first one. Portugal was the next destination and The Bees faced a tough test against Benfica B, a team that play second division football. It was a test that they proved more than worthy of, beating the Portuguese team 6-0 in a rout that saw Marcus Forss score four times. Zain Westbrooke added one from range before Jan Novak netted just before the end.
Three more games followed for O'Connor's side as Chelsea, Southampton and Dulwich Hamlet were all put to the sword by Brentford B. Chelsea and Southampton's Under-23 sides fell to narrow 2-1 results. While the Dulwich game ended 1-0 to The Bees, thanks to a goal from Reece Cole. This match was special for the 437 spectators that came to Champion Hill to watch the fixture.
