Ali Coote sat down with iFollow before the players left on holiday to give his thoughts on a year with Brentford B and his progress this season.
“It’s been a positive one,” said Ali. “Not just performance wise, I think physically I’ve improved a lot over the year. I’ve focussed hard on that and I think it has shown in games.”
Brentford B ended the season with a 3-2 win over Manchester City at Griffin Park, the last game for some of the older players like Bradley Clayton and Herson Rodrigues Alves. Ali was keen to give them a good send off.
“Kev [O’Connor] said that it would be nothing less than what we deserved if we went and won that game for the boys that are heading off in different directions. I think it was a really nice way to finish for them. I think everyone put in a shift and I think we deserved it in the end.”
The 19-year-old played 33 games and scored 9 goals over the course of the season, and settled into the dynamic of the squad from the first day.
“I’d say for a midfielder that’s okay yes. I’m quite happy with that but I’ll look to add more next season definitely.
“It’s a really good group of lads, some immature ones but I’m sure six weeks away for the summer and they’ll come back a bit more mature. It’ll be sad to see some of them go. I’ve made some good friendships over this year and I wish them all the best.”
Asked what sort of impact the mature players like Herson and Bradley have had on him, Ali said: “They’re two very different characters. Brad does his own things, goes off on his own and Herson is very vocal. I’ve learned a lot from both of them, they’re both really good in training and good professionals. They work really hard every day.”
The B Team games programme has been a focus of the setup for the past two years, and Ali was happy to comment on it as well as his personal achievements this year.
“It’s nice to play the big teams and also get some big results against them as well.
“I think I started the season strongly and then had a sort of injury-interupted period in the middle. I have kept on and finished the season strongly so hopefully I can take that into pre-season."
