A calendar to hail former Brentford star Stan Bowles and raise funds for him is being produced. The 69-year-old former England international played for The Bees between 1981 and 1984 and is remembered fondly by Bees fans. Stan won five caps during a career that saw him play most notably for Queens Park Rangers but also for Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Leyton Orient among others.
It was announced in 2015 that Stan is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Since the announcement fans of the clubs Stan played for have raised funds to support his family in paying for his care. There has also been awareness raised of the disease and its consequences. A collection was held at Griffin Park when Brentford played Queens Park Rangers last year where fans from both clubs donated.
The next step in the fund-raising is a 2019 calendar and the team putting it together are looking for sponsors to move the project forward. Fans or firms can pay £150 and have their name or company logo prominently on a page in the calendar. The calendar will include pictures of Stan in Brentford kit, as well as that of his other clubs and other pictures, supplied by Dave Lane of Legends Publishing.
Around 500 calendars are lined up for production but if there is sufficient sponsorship and interest the project could grow.
