What can I bring in to Griffin Park?

Safety and security update

25 January 2018

Over the past weeks, Brentford Football Club has received correspondence from supporters requesting information about what items can and cannot be brought in to Griffin Park on matchdays. With the season now just past the half way point, the Club would like to remind fans about some security and safety arrangements in place at Griffin Park.

At the start of the season Brentford Football Club reiterated that we take the safety of all of our supporters, visitors and staff extremely seriously. Working in partnership with Metropolitan Police colleagues, we continually review our security procedures, especially given events in Manchester, London and elsewhere over the past 12 months. A couple of important changes were made to help ensure the safety of everyone attending Griffin Park.

First, we encouraged supporters to attend the ground early to reduce the time it takes to get into the stadium. Arriving early allows for enhanced searching and limits the time supporters are queueing outside the stadium. The searches we carry out can vary in location and length, they are also randomised and unpredictable to improve the security of our ground.

Second, we have restricted the size and number of bags and other items allowed into the stadium. The Club has highlighted items that are prohibited in accordance with best practice guidance for ‘crowded places’ such as football stadiums. This list is similar to many other football grounds around the country. Details of the prohibited items have been placed around the entrances to the stadium and can be seen on the Club’s website here.

These changes were not designed to make visiting Griffin Park more difficult but to ensure everyone’s safety and minimise risks arising from a variety of issues.

Following very reasonable and understandable concerns from some supporters, the list of prohibited items has been reviewed by the Club. It has been agreed that some items should be removed, such as flasks and cartons of soft drinks. Others remain but the Club is aware that some will be needed by supporters that come to Griffin Park.

Should any supporter need dispensation to bring a prohibited item into the stadium then they should approach the search stewards who will examine the item/bag and provide a ‘proof of search’ tag. If anyone has any issues with this or a related matter please email in advance wherever possible and your query will be passed on to the correct person.
