Romaine Sawyers’ form last month, which included goals in the home wins over Fulham and Aston Villa, has seen him shortlisted for the EFL Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for December.
It was a stellar December for Romaine who found the net twice, and contributed three assists, in six games. The 26-year-old started the month with a goal and assist in the 3-1 west London derby win over Fulham before setting up Lasse Vibe for both his strikes as The Bees sealed a 2-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road. Romaine then opened the scoring with a fine long-range effort in the televised Boxing Day defeat of Aston Villa at Griffin Park.
The Bees midfielder is up against Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson, Derby County’s Scott Carson, and Bristol City midfielder Jamie Paterson for the award which is chosen by Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford.
Despite taking 13 points from six fixtures last month there was no place for Dean Smith on the Manager of the Month shortlist. This month’s prize will instead go to one of Derby County’s Gary Rowett, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Head Coach Nuno Santo, Alex Neil of Preston North End, or Bristol City’s Lee Johnson.
The winners of both awards will be announced tomorrow morning so check back then to see if Romaine has been successful.
