Justin Shaibu made his debut for Walsall last night but couldn’t help The Saddlers arrest their slide down the Sky Bet League One table after a 3-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.
A Danny Graham double put the home side in command, but a Joe Edwards effort gave Walsall hope before half-time. Justin was introduced at the break but the hosts made the game safe two minutes after the restart: Bradley Dack on target to consign The Saddlers to a fourth defeat in five league games. Jon Whitney’s side are now 18th in League One, three points above the drop zone, ahead of this weekend’s home game against MK Dons.
In Germany, Konstantin Kerschbaumer played 90 minutes as DSC Arminia Bielefeld took the points in the Westfalenderby on Monday night. DSC made the short trip to VfL Bochum and were rewarded with a first win in four league games thanks to a second-half Fabian Hartherz goal. Konstantin came close to making it 2-0 late on but in the end just the one goal was enough. The victory moves Bielefeld up to eighth ahead of Monday’s home game against Union Berlin.
This weekend also sees a return to action in Sky Bet League Two for Ilias Chatzitheodoridis and Jack Bonham. Ilias and Cheltenham Town head to Grimsby Town while Jack and Carlisle United make the long-trip south to Wycombe Wanderers.
