Jack Bonham made a string of fine saves to ensure that Carlisle United’s name was one of those to go into the hat for tonight’s Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round draw as he helped The Cumbrians to a goalless draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The Sky Bet League Two side had chances of their own to win it at Brunton Park but were indebted to Jack, who made fine saves to deny George Boyd and Adthe Nuhiu in particular, for their place in this evening’s draw. The clean sheet was Jack’s seventh in 27 appearances this campaign. The two sides will go again at Hillsborough next Tuesday but in the meantime Keith Curle’s side have a Sky Bet League Two game against Crewe Alexandra to look forward to on Saturday as they look to close the gap on the Play-Off places.
Zain Westbrooke wasn’t in the matchday 18 as Leyton Orient drew 0-0 at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday. The draw extended The O’s winless run to three in the Vanarama National but they remain in 19th place, seven points clear of the drop zone, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bognor Regis Town in the FA Trophy.
With the 2.Bundesliga on their mid-season break, Konstantin Kerschbaumer and DSC Arminia Bielefeld finished second in the Winter Cup over the weekend. Konstantin played in the 2-1 semi-final win over Hannover 96 but wasn’t involved as 1.FC Koln beat DSC 1-0 in the final. Next up ahead of the resumption is a game in Benidorm against KRC Genk on Thursday.
