New Year's Loan Round-Up

Two of our loanees were in action on New Year's Day

4 January 2018

Jack Bonham couldn’t prevent Mansfield Town inflicting a second-straight festive defeat on Carlisle United as the two sides met at Field Mill on Monday. Kane Hemmings’ double and one for Rhys Bennett ensured the points stayed in the East Midlands despite a second-half Jamie Devitt penalty for Keith Curle’s side. The defeat means that The Cumbrians head into Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie against Sheffield Wednesday 13th in Sky Bet League Two, eight points outside the Play-Offs.

Tom Field’s time with Bradford City came to an end as he made a late substitute appearance in The Bantams’ 2-1 win over Fleetwood Town. Jack Sowerby gave the home side an early lead but the visitors struck twice in seven second-half minutes through Alex Gilliead and Shay McCartan to take the points and stay in touch with the promotion chasers. Tom returned to Griffin Park after the game, having made nine appearances during his time at Valley Parade, eight of those coming in Sky Bet League One.

Zain Westbrooke wasn’t included in Leyton Orient’s matchday squad as they made the short trip to Dagenham and Redbridge on New Year’s Day. The game finished goalless to leave The O’s eight points above the drop zone in the Vanarama National.
