Ahead of our ‘Back to the 80s’ fixture against Bolton at Griffin Park this weekend, we asked our Bees supporters who their favourite player to wear our mighty stripes in the 80s was. Among Terry Hurlock and Andy Sinton, here’s your favourites:
Sinton joined The Bees in 1985 from Cambridge United for just £25,000, he made 149 appearances, chipping in with over 20 goals along the way. Sinton was a hardworking midfielder with a good footballing brain and created many goals.
Gary Blissett spent 7 seasons at Griffin Park scoring 105 goals in 291 matches. He was part of the team that reached the FA Cup Quarter Final in 1989, won promotion in 1991/92 and his 21 goals in the Championship in 1992/93 was the most at that level for Brentford since 1935!!
The iconic midfielder made 263 appearances and scored 24 goals during a five-and-a-half year spell at GP! He always gave his all when sporting our stripes, winning tackle after tackle.
The cult-hero defender was captain of the 1991/92 Division Three winning side, and named in the PFA Team of the Year for that season, and made 285 appearances in total for The Bees. Big Tel was named as the all-time fans' favourite, second greatest player and best-ever captain in a Football League 125th anniversary poll and was inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in August 2014.
Dean joined Brentford on loan from Watford in 1988 before signing on a permanent basis for The Bees the following year. He scored 38 goals in the 1991/92 season when Brentford won the 1991/92 Barclays Division Three championship. In total, Dean scored 76 goals in 145 games for The Bees, before he was sold to Wimbledon for a Club Record fee in the summer of 1992
