Match Preview: Shamrock Rovers vs Brentford B

Bees go in search of victory after Wednesday night defeat

9 February 2018

Brentford B take on Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.

Kevin O'Connor's men get their game underway at the same time as Brentford's First Team start their fixture with Preston North End at the weekend; 3pm.

The B squad will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing 2-1 to Dundalk on Wednesday night in County Louth. Bradley Clayton scored the only goal for the visitors in the first half before The Town responded with a second-half double to snatch victory in the 85th minute.

The Opposition

The venue for tomorrow's game is Tallaght Stadium, a mixture of terracing and seats that can hold 6,000 fans. It contains a grass pitch and is located to the South West of Dublin. Opened in 2009, it was the setting for the debut for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo during a pre-season friendly against Rovers.

Since moving to a new home nine years ago, Shamrock Rovers have gone through a period of success. In 2011, they played their first ever Champions League game in one of the qualification rounds. Later that year they became the first Irish team to compete in the group stages of a European competition by qualifying for the Europa League.

Shamrock's last league title came in 2011, making it two domestic titles on the bounce. Since then, they have been close to the top but never conquered the division. Last season, in 2017, the team finished third behind Dundalk in second and Champions Cork City.

The Bees

Ellery Balcombe missed out on the first game with Dundalk through injury but could return to the lineup on Saturday after resuming full training in the past two days.

Henrik Johansson has also returned to training this week but the game in Tallaght could come too soon for him to play a role tomorrow afternoon.

Bradley Clayton scored on Wednesday night, making it two in two for the attacking midfielder. He will be hoping to add to his tally of seven overall this season.

Danish fullback Lukas Talbro hit a milestone during the week with his 60th appearance for Brentford B. He has made the most appearances of any player for Kevin O'Connor's side since the beginning of the B Team programme.

There will be limited coverage of this game, due to the First Team match at the same time at Griffin Park. There will be highlights after the game as well as interviews with Kevin and some of his players after the final Irish fixture of the tour.
