Brentford Women’s FC let an early lead slip as they were beaten 5-1 by top of the table Sutton United Ladies at Gander Green Lane on Sunday.
The Bees travelled to Surrey on the back of three straight Greater London Women’s Football League Division One defeats but took an early lead through Mollie O’Reilly. That advantage was short lived, however, as Ella Bale struck twice before the interval to send the hosts in ahead.
After the break, Sutton took control. Faye Hayden made it 3-1, beating the offside trap and rolling home, before the league’s second-top scorer grabbed another in almost identical circumstances to put the game to bed. The scoring was rounded off late on thanks to Emma Green’s unstoppable long-range effort.
The league now goes into hibernation over the Christmas period with Justin Ali and Nathan Mobey’s side sitting in seventh with six points from ten games.
After picking up their first Division Two North win of the season last time out, there was no fixture for the Development Team on Sunday but they are in action next week, hosting third-from-bottom Larkspur Rovers in a relegation six-pointer at Bedfont Sports.
