All the info ahead of Sunday's game at Griffin Park

Four points from six, and a place in the Carabao Cup Second Round, Dean Smith's Bees will be looking to continue the fine start to the new campaign when Sheffield Wednesday head to Griffin Park on Sunday.

THE OPPOSITION

It's been another difficult summer for the Blue and White half of the Steel City with a transfer embargo casting a shadow over what had been a strong end to the season under Jos Luhukay. The Owls won six of their last nine to end the season in 15th and install a renewed sense of optimism around Hillsborough.

However, the absence of new faces has led to an underwhelming start with just one point gleaned from the opening two games. A 3-2 defeat to Wigan Athletic first up was followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Hull City last weekend. There was better, however, on Thursday night as a goal in each half saw The Owls past Sunderland in the Carabao Cup First Round.

That transfer embargo has meant Wednesday's only dealings this summer have been outgoings with Jack Hunt, Glenn Loovens, and Jordan Rhodes all departing Hillsborough in recent weeks.

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday's thin squad is already being stretched by a host of injury problems. Defender Joost van Aken is a doubt for tomorrow after picking up an injury during Thursday's win at the Stadium of Light joining Fernando Forestieri, who has scored in both The Owls' Championship outings thus far, Lucas Joao and Morgan Fox on the treatment table.

It's a much cleaner bill of health for The Bees with Emiliano Marcondes and Rico Henry the only two set to miss out. Dean Smith made 11 changes for Tuesday's Carabao Cup win over Southend United with Julian Jeanvier, Said Benrahma, Ryan Woods, and Kamohelo Mokotjo among those to get minutes under their belt.

THE MANAGER

Jos Luhukay's appointment in January had a fair few heading to Google with the 54-year-old not widely known outside of his native Holland, where he spent the majority of his playing career, and Germany, where he had spent his entire management career before joining The Owls.

A central midfielder, he began his career at the age of 15 at his hometown club VVV-Venlo. After spells with SVV Schiedam and RKC Waalwijk, he left for Germany, where he had two stints at SV Straelen, either side of a year at KFC Uerdingen in the Bundesliga.

After retiring in 1998, his first two managerial jobs were with Straelen and Uerdingen before a three-year spell at 1.FC Koln as Assistant Manager. Managerial roles at SC Paderborn 07, Borussia Monchengladbach and FC Augsburg followed before he took over at Hertha BSC in 2012. His first season in Berlin saw Hertha promoted with a record points haul in the 2.Bundesliga. 18 months later he was sacked with Hertha second from bottom in the German top flight. A short-lived spell at Stuttgart in 2016 ended as Luhukay fell out with the Chairman leading to a 16 month exile from management prior to his arrival at Hillsborough.
