A come-from-behind win at Maidstone United ensured it was a faultless Bank Holiday weekend for Ellery Balcombe in the National League with Boreham Wood.
Having beaten FC Halifax Town on Saturday, The Wood travelled to Kent on Monday to take on Maidstone. It was the hosts at The Gallgher Stadium who struck first, somewhat against the run of play, as Jack Paxman netted late on in the first-half. However, Luke Garrard's side were level by the hour mark; Angelo Balanta on target with a fine free-kick. And it was Charlton Athletic loanee Josh Umerah, the man keeping Justin Shaibu out of the Boreham Wood side currently, who completed the turnaround with a powerful effort five minutes from time. Victory moves the Hertfordshire club up to 12th ahead of Saturday's visit from Braintree Town.
In the Carabao Cup last night, Theo Archibald played 70 minutes as Forest Green Rovers were dumped out on penalties at Adams Park against Wycombe Wanderers. The two sides traded goals at the start of the second-half before Anthony Stewart looked to have won it for The Chairboys with a goal 15 minutes from time. However, Carl Winchester netted in the dying stages to send the game to penalties. After a pair of misses from each side, Ryan Allsop saved Paul Digby's effort to send Wanderers through. Forest Green are next in action on Saturday as they head to managerless Notts County in Sky Bet League Two.
