Ellery Balcombe was the only one of our four players out on loan to see action on Saturday as he played the 90 minutes during Boreham Wood’s narrow defeat to Leyton Orient.
Fellow Bee Justin Shaibu was left out of the matchday 16 for The Wood’s trip to East London. It was the visitors who enjoyed the better of the afternoon’s fare but Orient took the points with 20 minutes to play; Macauley Bonne firing past Ellery from the penalty spot after Ricky Shakes had been adjudged to have fouled Josh Koroma inside the area. Orient could have settled the match late on but Jobi McAnuff was denied by a fine Balcombe save. Defeat leaves Wood in 18th with five points from five games ahead of Saturday’s visit from FC Halifax Town.
In Sky Bet League Two, Theo Archibald was an unused substitute as Forest Green Rovers maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw at Bury. It could have been even better for Rovers had they not conceded a 90th minute Will Aimson goal to cancel out Christian Doidge’s first-half opener. The Gloucestershire side are currently seventh in the fourth tier with a visit from Stevenage to look forward to tomorrow night.
Also in League Two, Reece Cole missed Yeovil’s 4-0 win over Notts County on Friday night through injury. Alex Fisher’s hat-trick, his first of an 11 year career, and a late header from Yoann Arquin settled matters at Meadow Lane as The Glovers picked up their first victory of the campaign. The three points catapulted the Somerset side up to 11th with Oldham Athletic heading to Huish Park on Tuesday.
