Ellery Balcombe is the latest Brentford player to receive an international call-up after the goalkeeper was selected in England’s Under-20 squad for games against Switzerland and Holland next week.
Paul Simpson’s side take on The Swiss at St George’s Park on Thursday 6 September, kick-off 2pm, before heading across the channel to face Holland at KVV Quick Boys, on Monday 10 September, kick-off 7pm.
The 18-year-old, who is currently on loan at National League side Boreham Wood, has earned 13 caps for The Young Lions from Under-18 to Under-20 level, and played all four games at the Under-19 European Championships this summer in Finland.
Having agreed a temporary switch away from Griffin Park at the start of the month, Ellery has been an ever-present for The Wood in the National League since his arrival. He has played six times, keeping one clean sheet, as the Hertfordshire side look to bounce back from last season’s National League Play-Off Final defeat.
