Brentford B beat AFC Bournemouth Under-23s 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium on Friday evening. Ali Coote scored in the first half, before Joe Hardy and a Ryan Glover own goal completed the scoring.
Moses Odubajo made his second start for the side and managed an hour on his way back to full fitness. Patrik Gunnarsson managed to hold on to his first clean sheet of the season, working hard for it until the final seconds with a save on the line in added time.
Ali Coote scored for The Bees in the space of three minutes. Tackling the ball from a defender, he played a quick one-two with Hardy before slotting the ball under the keeper and into the net.
The Cherries went straight down the other end and Jaidon Anthony had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside.
Anthony then crossed low into the box from the right, where Alex Dobre got low to nod the ball towards goal. It dropped narrowly wide of the far post.
Just before 20 minutes, Kolbeinn Finnsson drilled a ball across the box, which missed Hardy by a matter of inches and ran off for a goal-kick. Hardy had another chance just five minutes later but it lacked power and the keeper was able to cling to it.
Moments later, Reece Cole could have scored when he met a volley with power on the edge of the box. After Finnsson played it in, Cole met it sweetly and blasted the ball towards the goal, but the keeper was in the way and it cannoned back out.
WIth half an hour gone, The Cherries should have levelled things. Coote played a weak backpass behind him, which was intercepted by Dobre. He ran towards goal, chopped to the left and shot just wide of the target.
With 35 minutes gone, Finnsson got himself in from the right wing and curled a shot left-footed towards the goal. It took a deflection on its way through and dropped narrowly wide of the left post.
Just before the break, Gunnarsson had to be quick to stop an almost certain goal from Anthony. The winger got himself space to shoot inside the penalty area, took aim and fired with power towards the roof of the net. The Icelandic keeper got his arms up quickly to parry the shot and it was then cleared long.
With seconds to go before the break, Canice Carroll got himself out of a tricky situation with a perfectly-timed tackle to prevent a three-on-two at the back. The Cherries had a man over when Carroll made his move, racing on to the ball and clearing it with the look of a seasoned defender.
Just after the restart, Hardy might have had a penalty. Getting contact in the box, he showed honesty to remain standing and got a shot away. The keeper easily caught the ball but the defender was lucky to get away with one.
With 55 minutes on the clock, the sprinklers came on and forced a stoppage while the ground staff turned them off. Brentford B doubled their lead soon after.
On the hour, Hardy made it two. Flicking on a corner from Jaakko Oksanen at the near post, the ball looped over the keeper and found the net at the far post. His first goal of the season, it put the team well and truly in control of the tie.
The third goal sealed it late into the second period. A curling shot from Nikolaj Kirk was heading wide before Ryan Glover swiped at it in mid-air. He connected with the ball, but it spun off and found the back of the net.
In the last minute, Carroll hit a shot from distance that blasted its way through a crowd of players. Goalkeeper Jordan Holmes threw himself down to parry the ball wide.
In the final minute of added time, Bournemouth's Tyler Cordner nodded one towards goal from a free-kick sent over the top. Gunnarsson got himself down to parry the ball away with his right arm, preserving his clean sheet right at the end of the game.
