Brentford Women’s FC Development Team gave themselves the best chance of promotion after a 5-4 final day win over Luton Town Hatters on Sunday.
In a game between second and fourth it was Nathan Mobey and Justin Ali’s side who shaded a nine-goal thriller at Stockwood Park Athletics Centre. Shannon Read netted twice, including the late winner, to take her to 26 for the season with Eilidh Short, Jodie Reid, and Emily Reynolds getting the others.
The three points guarantees The Bees a top three finish and any slip up from Alexandra Park in their remaining four games could see the girls in red and white promoted automatically behind Denham United.
It’s been an impressive season regardless for The Bees, who have won 12 and drawn one of their 18 league games. With 74 goals, Nathan and Justin’s side are the league’s leading scorers and are unbeaten in their last nine league matches, winning eight of them.
After the latest round of fixtures in Division One, Brentford’s First-Team remain sixth, a point clear of Luton Town. The Hatters were beaten 5-0 by top-of-the-table New London Lionesses on Sunday and a similar result next weekend would see The Bees finish the season comfortably in mid-table.
