The growing reputation of Brentford attacker Ollie Watkins has seen him named as one of the best players in the EFL. For the last 11 years, FourFourTwo magazine has compiled its Top 50 Football League Players and the 2018 list has just been released. The magazine has listened to fans across the three divisions as well as their mini-army of experts to name the 50 top talents in the EFL and Ollie has made that list.
The list was revealed last week and Ollie comes in at number 17. The 22-year-old joined Brentford from Exeter City in the summer and was named EFL Young Player of the Year last season. He has scored 11 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions, reaching double figures in his first Sky Bet Championship season. He has also contributed nine assists.
Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon was named the best player in the EFL by the magazine. Wolverhampton Wanderers pair Rúben Neves and Diogo Jota are also in the top five along with Matěj Vydra of Derby County and Tom Cairney of Fulham. The issue containing the list is available now.
Brentford head to Fulham for a Sky Bet Championship fixture on Saturday as they continue to hunt for a Play-Off place. Then we will be back at Griffin Park next week, when we face local rivals Queens Park Rangers in our penultimate home fixture this season. Tickets for our game against The R’s (Saturday 21 April) are available to previous ticket purchasers and selling fast so secure your place online here.
