Chris Mepham said that Brentford will do all they can to “give something back to the fans” during next Sunday’s season finale against Hull City. Defeat at Barnsley ended The Bees Play-Off hopes, however the Wales international stressed that Dean Smith’s side will seek to finish the season on a high.
“We’re all very disappointed in the dressing room,” Chris told iFollow Brentford. “We started the game well but let our heads drop after the first goal. We’ve got to dust ourselves down, reflect on the game and pick ourselves up again for Hull City on Sunday.
“There’s one game left, even if there’s nothing to play for in terms of Play-Offs it’s an opportunity to showcase our quality as a team. It’d be great to get a win from the last game of the season to reward the supporters who have come to watch us home and away all year. We want to give something back to them.”
From Brentford B to his Sky Bet Championship debut and a full international cap for Wales, 2017/18 has been a positive campaign for the 20-year-old. Chris was confident both he and Brentford have solid foundations to build upon next term.
“It shows the direction the Club is going in that we’re knocking on the door of the bigger teams,” said Chris. “For us to be in and around is a real positive, we’ve just fallen a bit short at times this year. We have more points now than we did last season, we just need that bit more quality to make the top six. We’ve got to kick on again next year. On a personal note the season couldn’t really have gone any better. The Play-Offs would have been great, but I’ve achieved a lot this year; credit to the Head Coach and all of the players who have guided me through.”
