Recognition for Bees after Bolton win

Yoann Barbet in EFL Team of the Week following long-range strike

26 September 2017

Yoann Barbet’s performance in Brentford’s first win of the Sky Bet Championship season has earned him special recognition. Yoann opened the scoring as The Bees beat Bolton Wanderers on Saturday. He scored a free kick from around 30 yards to put his team in front having started the game on the substitute’s bench. That goal, plus an assist and a clean sheet, saw Yoann named in the EFL Team of the Week, announced yesterday.

The French defender came on to replace John Egan early on and scored his free kick just over 20 minutes later. He then played a pass to Nico Yennaris that the midfield man smashed in to the top corner from 25 yards. Ollie Watkins sealed Brentford’s win with a fierce shot in to the top corner late on. Bees fans can see all three goals on the Club’s YouTube channel here.

Yoann was one of four defenders named in the team, and the only one from the Championship, which can be seen in full here. Yoann’s free kick was also named the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Weekend and there was other recognition for Brentford’s players after the win. Nico was named in the Football League Paper’s Team of the Day while Dean Smith was named Top Boss. And whoscored.com, the football statistics website, had Nico and Ollie in their Team of the Week.
