Ollie Watkins said that Brentford ‘showed great desire’ during the 1-1 draw with Derby County on Tuesday night. With the game in its dying embers it looked as though the outcome would be decided by Joe Ledley’s header, but Watkins fired home inside the final five minutes to earn The Bees a share of the spoils.
“We showed great desire to come back and get a point,” Ollie told iFollow Brentford. “It was hard out there tonight – Derby did their job well and sat off us - but we did well to come back and get the draw.
“Conceding early put a lot of pressure on us. We like to pass the ball and try and create things so it was a matter of time before we scored, it’s just a shame it was so late on as if we’d got it earlier in the game I think we’d have gone on to win”.
Chris Mepham was introduced at the interval and Ollie was full of praise for the young centre-half.
“Meps did really well. It’s only his second or third game but he showed great character. He passed the ball well and showed a lot of bravery against a great team; he’s a great young lad and there’s more to come from him”.
Up next for Dean Smith’s side is a trip to Middlesbrough, a game which Ollie says the team are looking forward to.
“It’s going to be tough be we back the ability in our squad. We’ll go to Middlesbrough and try and get the three points”.
