Moment in Time: Bolton Wanderers

Relive our last win on the road against The Trotters

23 September 2017

Ahead of this afternoon’s game at Bolton Wanderers, we step back in time to enjoy our last win on the road against The Trotters.

Brentford headed to Burnden Park in April 1992 with promotion from Division Three firmly in their sights. A poor run of form in March had seemingly ended The Bees automatic promotion hopes but consecutive wins over Hull City, Shrewsbury Town, and Darlington meant Phil Holder’s side travelled north in third place. Wanderers were comfortably in mid-table under Phil Neal and preparing for another season in the third tier.

In front of a crowd of just 4,382 it took only nine minutes for The Bees to score as Terry Evans rose highest at the back post to head home. Things got better for the visiting players and fans before the half hour as Nick Spooner turned into his own net. Despite a late Andy Walker goal for the home side, Brentford held on to record another important three points.

The win, a fourth in a row, kept The Bees well and truly in the promotion hunt and things were about to get even better. Fulham were dispatched 4-0 the following Sunday setting up a final day decider at Peterborough United. A single Gary Blissett goal was enough to wrap up promotion and the Division Three title.
