Match Preview: Brentford B v Queens Park Rangers U23

Kevin O'Connor's side host a West London derby at Griffin Park on Tuesday

4 September 2017

Brentford B face Queens Park Rangers U23 at Griffin Park on Tuesday 5 September, kick-off 7.45pm. Entry is free for spectators.

Just before they head off to Germany for two matches in quick succession, Brentford B host local rivals QPR in a friendly at the stadium.

The Opposition

Queens Park Rangers U23 play in the Professional Development League Two South and, so far this season, have won all three of their opening games of the competition.

Their most recent result was a 3-2 victory over Barnsley, with a squad that included First Team members Joe Lumley, Niko Hamalainen and Ryan Manning. Hamalainen and Brentford striker Marcus Forss are likely to have crossed paths in the past, both of them representing Finland at youth level.

Last season, Brentford B played two squads from Rangers. The first encounter at Jersey Road ended in a 3-0 win for The Bees, Manny Onariase, Herson Alves and Justin Shaibu getting the goals against a young R's side. The return fixture went the way of The Hoops, a 2-0 win at Harlington, but which also saw a return to action for Rico Henry.

The Boss

Paul Hall is the man in charge of QPR's U23 side. Capped by Jamaica over 40 times, playing all three of their games in the 1998 World Cup, the former striker has been with Rangers for two years.

The 45-year-old, born in Manchester, began his career at Torquay United in 1990. A decade later, he found himself at Coventry City following a five-year spell at Portsmouth playing under former QPR stalwart Terry Fenwick. After the turn of the millennium, Hall began moving from club to club, rarely getting more than a couple of season with one team. Sheffield United, West Bromwich Albion, Walsall and Chesterfield were among the teams he played for until he hung up his boots with Mansfield Town in 2011.

His coaching days began at Mansfield, then later at his local side Tamworth. He joined QPR in 2015, becoming the most internationally recognised member of their Professional Development staff.

Brentford B

The B Team are on an incredible run of eight wins in eight games, their most recent result a 2-0 win over AFC Bournemouth U23. Herson Alves and Justin Shaibu scored in the second half to secure a Bees win in wet conditions at Jersey Road.

After Bournemouth, only four players have participated in every game this season and will likely be on display tomorrow; Ellery Balcombe, Ali Coote, Marcus Forss and Lukas Talbro.

Nine players have scored 23 goals between them this season, Marcus Forss still leading the way with five. Ali Coote has four, while Zain Westbrooke and Theo Archibald have three a piece. Westbrooke, although on a 28-day youth loan at Solihull Moors, is allowed to play in this game.
