Mads Bech Sørensen described his first taste of Sky Bet Championship football as an “amazing experience”. The Denmark Under-19 international captain was on the substitutes bench for The Bees in the 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough last week. Mads joined Brentford as part of the B Team squad in the summer, joining from AC Horsens and spoke to brentfordfc.com about his season so far from the Denmark Under-19 camp.
Mads said: “Training with the First Team has been great and it really motivates even more every time I do it. I found out on the Thursday that I would be travelling to Middlesbrough the following day. I am not a great singer so I didn’t enjoy having to perform in front of the players on my first overnight trip but everyone had a great laugh so I hope they enjoyed it.
“It was an amazing experience to be on the bench at Middlesbrough. English football is full of intensity and I would see it in that game. There was an amazing atmosphere as well so it was a great day for me.”
Mads moved away from his home country for the first time this summer when he joined The Bees. He explained the work that had been done in West London to make him feel at home and said how much he had gained from being part of the B Team group.
“It has been very easy to settle in,” said Mads. “It is a great group of people and they just make it all so easy. It has been an exciting move for me and I have enjoyed it at lot so far. Living in London has been good and I like the city. It is very different from what I came from. Training has been great. I like the intensity and I have learned a lot so far.”
Mads captained Denmark Under-19 as they beat Romania in a friendly on Thursday. He played the full 90 minutes while fellow B Team defender Lukas Talbro was also involved. The two teams meet again today, Sunday 8 October, before Denmark try to qualify for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships. The first phase of qualification will take place next month.
“It a great feeling to represent Denmark and I enjoy it a lot,“ said Mads. “I hope we get another win against Romania and prepare well for the qualifiers in next month. Then I will come back for the next set of B Team games. I am looking forward to every single game.”
