Late goal denies Ellery Balcombe win with England

Goalkeeper plays in 2-2 draw against Slovakia

10 October 2017

Ellery Balcombe earned his second England Under-19 cap on Monday as Paul Simpson's side were pegged back late on in Senec against Slovakia.

Following Friday's 1-0 defeat to the Czech Republic, Ellery returned to the England line-up for the game on the outskirts of Bratislava. The Young Lions led twice thanks to goals from Chelsea's Mason Mount and Sunderland midfielder Elliot Embleton, either side of a strike for the home side. It looked like that would be enough to hand the Young Lions the win but Slovakia levelled in stoppage time.

Simpson and his squad will now turn their attentions to games with Bulgaria, Iceland and Faroe Islands in November with a place in next March’s elite qualifying round for the European Championships up for grabs.

In total, 17-year-old Ellery has now earned six caps across various age groups for England.
