Brentford’s Danish defenders will have a further chance to book at place at the World Cup next month after falling just short of making it last night. Henrik Dalsgaard and Andreas Bjelland were part of the Denmark squad that completed their FIFA World Cup 2018 Qualifying campaign last night. Denmark drew 1-1 with Romania and secured second place in Group E. This means they will have a Play-Off next month for a place in the finals.
Henrik played 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Andreas was an unused substitute. Denmark took the lead in the second half through a penalty from Tottenham Hotspur midfield player Christian Eriksen. Romania were reduced to ten men but levelled at the death to earn a point. That goal did not prove to be relevant as Poland won to top the ground and a draw ensured second place and a Play-Off spot.
Denmark’s Under-19 side were also in action yesterday and beat Romania 5-1. Brentford B defender Mads Bech Sørensen captained the Denmark team while Lukas Talbro played the last half hour. Denmark were 3-0 up within 30 minutes and added two more in the second half to take the win.
Elsewhere, Finland’s Under-19 side were beaten 2-1 by Georgia in the first of two back-to-back friendly matches. Brentford B striker Marcus Forss was called up to the squad for the two games but was not part of the matchday group. The second friendly takes place tomorrow, Tuesday 10 October.
