Young Bees watch on as international teams lose

Update on Brentford players away with their national teams

7 October 2017

Neither of Brentford’s B Team internationals were able to add to the cap total in last night’s fixtures. Goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe is with England’s Under-19 side for two matches in Eastern Europe. He was an unused substitute as England were beaten by Czech Republic in a friendly fixture. The only goal was scored by the hosts in the second half. Ellery and England will now travel to Slovakia for their next match on Monday.

Meanwhile, a little closer to home, Theo Archibald was with the Scotland Under-21 squad for a match against England. The game took place at Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium – where Theo was part of the Brentford squad that drew a Sky Bet Championship fixture a week ago – but the Brentford winger was not named in the matchday squad for the UEFA European Under-21 Championships qualifying fixture. England won the game 3-1, scoring the crucial third with 11 minutes to go moments after Scotland had halved the deficit.

Theo will now travel with Scotland to Latvia for their next qualifier on Tuesday. There could be two more Brentford players in international action today. Kamohelo Mokotjo is with the South Africa squad for a World Cup qualifying match against Burkina Faso while Justin Shaibu is with Denmark’s Under-20 side, who face Sweden.
