Familiar Faces: Preston North End

We run through the links between us and Saturday's opponents

27 October 2017

It's a very lightly travelled path between Griffin Park and Deepdale with none of the current Brentford or Preston squads having any link to the other ahead of tomorrow's game. And going back in time just 15 men have represented the two clubs during our EFL days.

The most prominent of those to have played for both is, without doubt, Alan McCormack. The midfielder moved across The Irish Sea to join North End as a trainee in 2002. Despite spending five years with the club, he made just ten appearances before joining Southend. Following spells with The Shrimpers, Charlton Athletic, and then Swindon Town, Alan arrived at Griffin Park in the summer of 2013.

During his four-year spell in West London, Alan made 104 appearances and was a key member of the 2013/14 promotion winning side. His all-action displays endured him to the Brentford faithful and he picked up the Supporters' Player of the Year as The Bees ended a 21-year wait for second tier football. Injuries plagued his latter years with Brentford and he departed Griffin Park last summer to join Luton Town.

Other players who have represented both clubs include 2008/09 League Two title winning defender John Halls, midfielder John Mousinho, who was part of Martin Allen's squad which reached the Play-Offs in 2006, and 2012/13 Play-Off Final striker Paul Hayes.
