Dan Bentley named in EFL Team of the Week

Goalkeeper's performance against Millwall sees him make league selection

16 October 2017

Dani Bentley's fine display against Millwall on Saturday saw the 24-year-old named in the EFL Team of the Week.

The goalkeeper got a vital touch to deny Lee Gregory early on but it was after the break that The Bees number one came into his own. Shane Ferguson, Jed Wallace, and Gregory were all denied before referee Lee Probert awarded The Lions a penalty inside the final ten minutes. Gregory stepped up to take from 12 yards but Dan guessed right and turned his spot kick away to safety, ensuring The Bees would pick up a first league win of the season at home.

The EFL Team of the Week, published on the EFL website, is drawn from the performances over the previous weekend's action across all Sky Bet EFL divisions. Daniel is the third Brentford player to be recognised this season: Josh Clarke's performance in our 4-1 Carabao Cup win over QPR saw him included while Yoann Barbet's performance against Bolton Wanderers also earned him a nomination.

There were further plaudits for Daniel as he was crowned the WhoScored.com Sky Bet Championship Player of the Weekend after receiving a 9.3 rating out of ten.

Goalscorer Romaine Sawyers and central defender Andreas Bjelland were also selected in the Football League Paper Championship Team of the Weekend.
