Brentford Penguins FC, a team for people with Down's Syndrome, is holding a free taster session tomorrow night, Thursday 5 October, in Hanwell. The club is the brainchild of former Bees winger Allan Cockram and is open to people aged eight to 30 who want to play football and enjoy themselves while getting some exercise.
Tomorrow night’s free taster session will be held from 6.30-8pm at Brentside School Sports Hall, Greenford Avenue, Hanwell, London, W7 1JJ. Anyone interested in attending, or seeking further information, should email email@example.com or call 07546 259367.
Allan spent four years with The Bees and was part of the team which reached the 1988/89 FA Cup Quarter-Finals, playing seven times during that run. The former-winger had been coaching in the USA but returned home to take up a part-time job at UCL.
Inspired by the tragic death from Down’s Syndrome of his best friend’s son, Allan decided to use his free-time to set up the Penguins with help from Dan Wood, founder of the World Freestyle Football Federation, Victoria Smith, and with promotional help through the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust’s extensive community network.
