The stories from around the world of football over the past seven days

Brentford news

With no Championship action over the past seven days, a Brentford XI took part in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday. Sergi Canos, Josh McEachran, and Yoann Barbet all got minutes under their belt with Sergi netting a fine individual goal in the 1-1 draw.

Off the field, it was announced that Head of Recruitment Andy Scott would be leaving The Bees to take up a position at Premier League side Watford.

Sky Bet Championship news

It’s been a quiet few days in the Championship with domestic giving way to international football. The main news story over the past week saw Millwall launch an out-spoken attack on the FA after midfielder Jed Wallace’s appeal against his red card was rejected. Elsewhere, Aaron Tshibola returned to Aston Villa from his loan spell at MK Dons while it was revealed that Sunderland defender Lamine Kone would be out until early 2018 due to a knee injury.

World Football news

Five more nations are celebrating qualification for next summer’s World Cup in Russia after the latest round of matches in Europe and Africa. Senegal, Morocco, and Tunisia joined Egypt and Nigeria in filling the five African spots while Switzerland and Croatia beat Northern Ireland and Greece in the first two UEFA Play-Off games.

Four spots are still up for grabs through the final round of Play-Offs with all the ties intriguingly poised after the first legs. In Europe, Sweden take a one goal lead into tonight’s return fixture against Italy in Milan while Andreas Bjelland's Denmark and the Republic of Ireland head to Dublin on Tuesday all square after Saturday’s goalless draw in Copenhagen.  The two intercontinental Play-Offs are also both goalless after their first legs with Australia and Peru looking forward to home advantage on Wednesday against Honduras and New Zealand respectively.
