Romaine Sawyers spoke to iFollow this week to discuss how well the team have been performing. We also took the time to ask him about his goals this season and how he spends his down time.

"I think we have had the performances from the start of the season," said Romaine. "We just haven't picked up the points. I think everybody has still had the belief, the faith in the team, and now we are starting to show it.

"There's definitely a confidence to the squad. The way you see Josh Clarke playing at left-back particularly, he's got a little boost even though it's not his natural position. People like that have spurred others on to be confident in themselves and I think that is showing throughout the whole team."

Romaine has got himself on the scoresheet a couple of times this season, but he acknowledged that the whole squad are chipping in.

"I think we are that kind of team," he said. "We have goals in us from loads of different areas. Neal [Maupay] keeps coming off the bench, Florian [Jozefzoon] had a few, Ollie [Watkins] is obviously flying. I think the foundations are at the back and, going forward, that has made it a lot easier for us further up the pitch.

"As I said, Clarkey playing left-back, he's out of position but him and the rest of the back four are doing well. That's just making life easier for us."

The good run of results has seen Brentford rise up the Sky Bet Championship table. When asked how much attention he pays to the standings at this early stage, Romaine said: "Personally, I don't pay much attention to it. I think after Christmas is when you've got to start really looking at the table."

The lads have been preparing for a busy winter period with some time away from the training ground. Romaine caught us up on what he had been doing.

"I went home for a bit," he said. "I spent some time with my family. I haven't spoken to all the boys but I know Clarkey and Nico [Yennaris] have done the same. A few of the boys had days off and now we are back in recovery and working hard towards Cardiff."
