Brentford FC Futsal Club 7 Chelsea FC Futsal Club B 5 (Guildford Spectrum – 15/11/17)
Brentford FC Futsal Club secured all three points in their English Football League Trust Futsal South East Championship opener against Chelsea ‘B’ earlier this week. The Bees took the season-opening victory against their West London rivals after a tense finish. Having held a big lead for much of the match, Brentford needed two late goals to get the win.
The Futsal Bees overcame transport issues to arrive at The Guilford Spectrum after a ten-week pre-season full of optimism. A sparkling first half saw three goals scored in the opening 11 minutes. The first from Naz Abdullah, followed by a great team goal with an excellent finish from five metres by Said Gutale. A clinical strike from Ali Hassan arrived soon after and meant the Bees looked very comfortable at the half time break.
The second half though was a completely different story as the Bees faltered against a rejuvenated Chelsea. Chelsea took the game to Brentford and scored five minutes into the second half but a minute later Moayed Ibrahim restored the three-goal lead against the team from SW6. This did not stop The Blues as they continued to pile on the pressure onto the Futsal Bees.
The Premier League side stuck to their task and some sloppy play from Brentford saw Chelsea close the gap to 4-3 with eight minutes to go. Three minutes later the Premier League outfit were on level terms at 4-4 but Ibrahim restored the Bees lead with a brilliant individual goal, beating three players to net.
Chelsea, once again fought back and levelled up the score at 5-5 with less than two minutes on the clock. With only 90 seconds left, it was Ibrahim who completed his hattrick and nudged the Bees into a 6-5 lead. Chelsea then threw everything at Brentford and the Bees goalkeeper, Elgi Fezjo was called into action to make two crucial saves to maintain the lead for the red and whites. With 30 seconds to go, Ali Hassan scored on the counter-attack and secured a hard fought three points for the TW8 side.
Head Coach Luis Melville said: "The first half was really impressive from Brentford and the players did everything that we asked of them. All credit to Chelsea in the second half as I think they took advantage of some complacency from us and almost made us pay. However, we showed a lot of resilience in the last three minutes of the game to stick in there and get the points. Quite clearly, there is still some work to do’.
Next up for the Bees is a trip to Birmingham on Thursday 23rd November for The EFLT Futsal Cup Firstt Round where they have been drawn against Southampton, Stoke City and Norwich City.
